Milestone reached!

After struggling with gearbox longevity issues for the first half of the year, we are happy to report that our new hammering design is currently showing a lot of promise. In September we were able to drill for a longer period of time for the first time, allowing us to reach a first milestone of 20 meters of depth. While the focus now shifts a bit towards lose ground drilling in anticipation of the introduction of the extrusion unit to the system in April 2026, we will continue to drill deeper with the current setup in the coming months.

New team members

Over the summer, we were able to strengthen the team further with new additions in the mechanical engineering area. Vital joined us in August, supporting the workshop, testing and movement unit team, while Karl joined in mid September to help accelerate the development of the extrusion unit. Beyond that, we had Arianne and Andri join as new interns as a replacement for Kristian and Joel whose internships ended in Fall. Joel will remain with us though, as he decided to write his master thesis together with us. We continue to be on the lookout for mechanics that can support us in the workshop.

Optimizations on the movement unit

During the last field tests we have been struggling more and more with mud in the movement unit. The mud started clogging the release valves, not allowing the cylinder chambers to reliably empty anymore. We have now made adjustements that we are confident will fix the issues and will continue our tests in the coming weeks.

Great idea to lower the cost and footprint of these geothermal wells! It looks like you are running with very little space for cuttings. You all need a larger annular space for the mud and high flow to clear out the cuttings. Traditional BHAs will have over-sized bits and pleanty of space for cuttings. Even tool joints can cause a pack off. I’ve worked in the oilfield as a design engineer on drilling tools. Are you looking for engineers?

Contract negotiation requires both technical and financial understanding. Companies aim to achieve fair and balanced agreements. Within this process, commercial management plays a supporting role. It helps manage obligations and expectations. This contributes to stronger business relationships.
